The Matt Mertes Memorial Trail is a 3 mile hiking trail located in Lycoming County PA. In 2003, Troop 172 took over the maintenance of the trail. Maintenance is usually performed annually in either early spring or fall and consists of trail clearing and marker replacement.
The trail starts on at the intersection of Wallis Run Rd and Butternut Grove Rd and terminates at the northeast corner of Cheryl’s Trail in Rider Park. Trail is steep, rocky and known for high rattlesnake activity. While only 3 miles long, plan to spend the entire day hiking the trail. There is no direct outlet and you will need to either backtrack on the trail to Wallis Run Rd or continue on Cheryl’s Trail to the Rider Park parking lot for approximately 2 miles.
